The STM Story

A silver lining

At the beginning of COVID, my older daughter was in kindergarten at a local public school. She had a wonderful teacher….who also had 21 other 5- and 6-year-old children for whom she was responsible. My daughter really didn’t love school, and she didn’t seem to be progressing well, especially in reading. When school became virtual in March of 2020, she was assigned a lot of worksheets. I took one look at her packets and thought, “This isn’t going to work for us.”

I started coming up with my own creative ways to teach her the same concepts without the worksheets, and she starting flourishing. Suddenly, she could read above grade level, and more importantly, she was loving learning. Our COVID bubble expanded to a few close friends, and when fall came around, I couldn’t imagine going back into a classroom without a vaccine, so I started a small learning pod. Before I knew it, all the children were thriving. It was then I knew for certain that this was how children were meant to learn, and I was going to be the one to do it.

We made the official switch to a microschool in 2021, added some amazing teachers and the rest, as they say, is history.
